History

Little Saints Child Development Center began as a vision in the mind of Saint Paul U.M. Church member, Iva Mae Light. Ms. Light graciously donated the funds to construct the facility that is home to Little Saints Child Development Center. The building was completed in March 2002 and since that time has been a ministry to many children and families as their daily home away from home.

About Little Saints

Little Saints Child Development Center is a state licensed child care center. We work hand in hand with a licensing specialist, as well as other state regulated departments, on a regular basis to ensure that our policies and facility are following the most up to date child care licensing requirements and expectations. In collaboration with these departments, we are able to guarantee a safe, nurturing environment for the children in our care.

Our staff consists of individuals who are knowledgeable and well trained in their individual areas of child care. Our staff members are required to participate in an ongoing pursuit of educational courses and content specific to Early Childhood Development in order to provide them with the most current research and techniques as they work with our little ones each day.

Little Saints is designed to provide children with a quality, age appropriate education as well as help them to build a solid foundation of social and emotional skills. Our children attend Chapel once a week with the Children’s Ministry Director of Saint Paul Methodist Church. Our facility also offers a quiet space where therapists from the Wilbur D. Mills Co-op can come and service children in the areas of speech, occupational, and physical therapies.

Our Classes

Nursery- Our nursery class is home to infants beginning at 6 weeks and up to 1 year of age. The nursery ratio is 1 caregiver per 5 infants. Our facility is equipped to care for 10 infants at any given time. The staff in this class are famous for singing songs, reading books, and giving lots of 1 on 1 attention to their little ones.

Ones- Our 1 year old classroom houses our 12 month old walkers up to 2 years old. Once a child advances to this room, children begin participating in organized activities that incorporate hands on materials, singing, and reading. Our staff spend lots of time promoting skills such as independent feeding, walking, and sharing.

Twos- Advancing to the Two’s room is a whole new world. Our 2 year olds to 3 year olds begin to experience things like drawing/coloring, working with playdough or sand, and an assortment of other hands on activities. Our staff in this class also organize circle time which includes age appropriate educational material, songs, dance, and reading time. Our staff encourage lots of free play as this is considered “a child’s work” and we realize that this is the most effective way that children learn.

Threes- Moving to the three year old class means beginning to prepare for preschool. Our 3’s classroom is similar to the 2’s but with more structure. Our staff still encourage much free play as children are still learning to play and share cooperatively. However, circle time and learning time are much more structured and have a curriculum that is planned by our CDA licensed teacher in this classroom. Children are also encouraged to continue to advance in their own self-care skills like toileting and washing hands independently. Our nurturing staff are still there to help them along every step of the way.

Fours- Children in our four year old class are provided with the full Pre-K experience. Their day begins with a morning prayer & snack at the table, followed by circle time packed with learning: letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and more. The day continues with outside play and Bible time. Students bring their lunch each day and have rest time in the afternoon. Students are provided with unlimited opportunities for hands on play and planned Science activities each week.

After-school Care- During the school year, Little Saints Child Development Center picks up students from Westside Elementary School and Southwest Middle School in Searcy. After-school care ranges from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Students are provided with a snack, time to work on homework or play with friends.

Summer Care- Little Saints offers summer care for students in our after-school program and accepts additional students only if positions are available. Our summer care participants take field trips to various places, have organized daily activities, theme days, and participate in community service projects as organized by the staff.
